100 PORTRAITS IN 100 DAYS - Dodge, 32/100, © Carol Nelson Fine Art

Day 32

Dodge is a fellow I "met" on Facebook. This is one of his profile pictures and I could immediately see that it would make an interesting portrait. I love all the green in the photo - the wild colors were already there for me - no racking my brain to come up with wild colors.
For purchase information, please see my website, or email me at carolnelsonfineart@comcast.net.

AND THE WINNER IS: JEFF, 25/100. Jeff's portrait was the favorite in the last group of ten.
I'm curious about the past three winners - they've all been guys wearing glasses. I've painted some beautiful women, adorable children, but viewers are going for guys with glasses. If this continues, looks like today's painting of Dodge has a good chance.
Thanks to all who sent me their vote. I think this is so fun!!!

"Bird" working title by Saundra Lane Galloway

I've been playing in OILs...I have to admit it has been YEARS since I did this...my cat portrait from the other day is my first...This little bird was me seeing what I would do without my friend standing there saying stop...or remember simple strokes...I am not unhappy with it...I remember I like OILS...and now I'm thinking I need to do oils for portraits and animals like this and so forth...acrylics are still critical to my collage work and other applications...but OILS...hmmm...fun!!

100 PORTRAITS IN 100 DAYS - Milvi,30/100, © Carol Nelson Fine Art

Day 30

Today's portrait is one of a pair of sisters, Milvi and Inga, who said they spent an afternoon having a photo shoot to get photos to send to me. They said even if I don't choose to paint them, they had a lot of fun doing their photo session.
They did a great job of setting up the lighting for their photo shoot. Notice the strong single light source on one side. When I first painted Milvi, I had her all in blue and purple. She looked like an extra out of Avatar. I decided to tone down the blue to a somewhat more believable color, but you can still see some blue here and there.
I had fun with her glasses too. They're kind of there and not there. For purchase information, please see my website or email me at carolnelsonfineart@comcast.net

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

TIME TO VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE IN THE THIRD GROUP OF TEN!!!!!!!!!!!
Please review Portraits 21 (Regula) through 30 (Milvi) and email me with your favorite.

100 PORTRAITS IN 100 DAYS - Donna, 29/100, © Carol Nelson Fine Art

Day 29

Another far away viewer of my blog, this is Donna from Australia. Perhaps I should have put a kangaroo in the background, or, better yet, Hugh Jackman. Happy (belated) Australia Day, Donna!I was watching the Australian Open, which is going on right now in Melbourne, and they actually stopped play for the annual fire works extravaganza. Last year, at this time, my daughter and her husband lived Down Under, and they said the fireworks on Australia Day, which they observed from a boat in Sydney harbor, was the most spectacular fireworks they had ever seen. They know how to party in Oz.

"Jackson in Fauve" by Saundra Lane Galloway

This 6x6" panel is painted in oils using the concept the fauvist's used...brighter colors. Jackson is my parents cat. They LOVE this cat. Jackson rules my parent's household, and he is HAPPY about it! I love Jackson...so I went to paint with my friend and fellow artist Carol Nelson who is currently doing 100 portraits in 100 days in the fauvist style and Carol tutored me through this. I haven't painted in oils for about 4 years, so it was a learning experience along with trying to capture Jackson for my mother's next Joy Day...since she hit a "certain" age she decided no more BIRTHDAYS...so she named it a Joy Day instead. Being her name is Joy it fits perfectly with her name as well as her personality!! So, shhhh...this is a secret from my wonderful mother til March!

"Here's the Path" by Kate Dardine

Painting # 15 of my Painting a Day Project. This one started out as a bear in tall grasses with poppies, but I decided I wasn't in the mood to paint a bear - I was really just interested in the poppies and grasses. Three wipe outs later, the painting had the abstract feel I was looking for.

Jaipur by Jala Pfaff

I've rarely worked in such a high key before. It's interesting and feels good to at least temporarily get outside of my usual palette. (I never even realized I "have" a palette. I don't think most people realize they do, until they [for example] take a look at their original-boxed pastel set and see that some pieces are nubs, and others untouched.)

Day 27

I like the golden tones in this portrait - the sunglasses were fun to do - I think it's one of my better nose renditions. That about sums up this portrait of this lovely young lady. She is the daughter of one of my fellow Daily Painters members, Debbie Lincoln.

"Mountain Triptych" working title by Saundra Lane Galloway

6"x6" panels combined to a 6"x18" finished triptych.

I haven't named this piece yet, but I'm finished with it. These three panels are done on 6x6" cradled panel that I've stained on the sides for a finished look. I will be adding this to my website in the next few days.

The inspiration for this piece started on the back of my bathroom door. I've been taking a lot of warm baths lately, so the design on the back of the door was calling to me! The sky is the only painted part of this...acrylic...the rest are papers. For more photos hop over to my BLOG.

"HOME PORTRAIT" by Char Davis

"Home Portrait"
10"x13"
Watercolor on Arches WC Paper

Another Home Portrait done for a family living in Colorado; this painting is of their wonderful cabin in Wyoming. This commission if for a gift for the husband who loves his home away from home. I don't know if you can see the two dogs near the front deck...just makes the painting a little more personal. These are commission pieces and if you have been reading my blog, I do quite a lot of these paintings. They make wonderful gifts for family and friends who are moving away or want to have a memento of their first, second, or even vacation home! I've painted for families that are in their third or fourth home and they have a keepsake for every home they have lived in! What a fun way to remember your old "roots"

100 PORTRAITS IN 100 DAYS - Megan, 26/100, © Carol Nelson Fine Art

Day 26

I loved painting this little girl. She has such sparkle in those dark eyes. On this portrait, I started with a pink background and you can see bits of pink showing here andthere like along the side of her face and around the braid. I also liked using the blue on the side of her face. Of course, some purple got in there too - almost everyone gets some purple here or there.
For purchase information, please see my website, or email me carolnelsonfineart@comcast.net.

"On the Precipice" by Kate Dardine

Painting #14 of my Painting a Day project. The bison is back! I haven't painted a bison yet in this series - last night it was a duel between Elk and Bison...Bison won! I wasn't sure how I was going to handle the background on this one, but had the idea that I wanted a "halo" around her head, signifying the sacredness of the bison and her importance in our survival as human inhabitants of this planet. This piece will be framed and entered into the Western Spirit miniature Art Show. 5x7 oil on stretched canvas.
