Tenth Street spring by Jala Pfaff
The trees on our street are looking so amazing...all the little leaves coming unfurled. Everything's so colorful and miraculous after the tough winter we had. Yes, I know, it happens every year, Spring...yet it really does feel like a miracle.
This mini (4" x 4") painting reflects some of that color: the acid greeney-yellows of willows, and the dark peach of new maples.

ALERT: You are about to view art of a different nature. These are paintings on glass -- that is, painted directly onto glass with specially formulated glass paints. They are always framed for the protection of the glass. The paints often are transparent and sometimes opaque, giving a stained glass appearance under good light. They, like all fine art, should not be hung in direct sunlight. The photographs do not do them justice -- my colors are very vibrant. Close ups are available, just e-mail me for information (see below). 100 OIL PORTRAITS IN 100 DAYS -Campbell, 96/100, ©Carol Nelson Fine Art
Day 96Campbell is such a little beauty. I can see her in about 10 years becoming a stunning young lady. In the first version of this portrait the reference photo had her left ear cropped off, so I just painted it with her hair pretty much covering it. It wasn't until I uploaded the ref photo here that I saw that her left ear actually showed. I had to go back and wipe off the hair and paint that blue ear in.

Sky study 19 by Jala Pfaff
It was fun using some "old-fashioned" pastel paper (Ingres) for a change of pace. There's definitely, when using this sort of paper, a sweet spot where you have just enough pastel but not so much as to kill the sparkle.

OK, I've got to set the scene here. Catherine Yockers (74/100) has her knitting business making custom hand knit hats and other items. Click here to visit her Etsy shop. She sometimes calls on daughter Mandy and even the dog Molly to model her creations.
So here we have Mandy modeling a wool hat, in the summer, and not looking too happy about it. The look on Mandy's face looks so disgruntled that I smiled to myself the whole time I was painting her. It's more/less the same look I got from my daughters whenever they were told to do something they had no interest in doing such as cleaning their rooms, weeding the garden, picking strawberries, etc. Gotta love it.
