When I started painting urban landscapes I never liked painting the automobiles in the compositions. But, they are everywhere in the urban landscape so I have come to enjoy the character they can bring to a piece as well as making them the focus of a painting. I don't know my antique cars and trucks but this image was sent to me from Katrina in Lubbock Texas and she might know the make of the truck. All I know is this specimen made a wonderful subject for a painting. Thanks Katrina!

I will occasionally be adding 8"x10" and 9"x12" paintings to my Small Gems blog for a change of pace from the smaller 5x7 and 6x6 sizes. This painting is 9"x12" and a warm colorful scene from some sunflower fields in northeastern Colorado. I photographed this scene several years ago when traveling to the Pawnee Grasslands to do some painting on location. The sunflowers are amazing in the way that they follow the sun so entire fields of flowers are all smiling at you at once!

Back to dogs I photographed at a recent outdoor art show. It was nice of these pooches to bring their people to my booth.
I saw several of this cute combination of a labrador and a poodle - a labradoodle is what they are called.
The poodle part must be a standard size poodle because these sweet faced dogs are pretty big.

I was getting "Ready for the Trail" ready to hang at a show and a good friend fell in love with it! I'm so glad she is purchasing this painting because I am kind of attached to it, and now I can enjoy it hanging in her home! My inspiration for this painting was a super fun vacation we took to Asheville, North Carolina, and my hubby and I went on a trail ride through the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains there. It was spring and was so beautiful! We stayed at our friend's, Patti and Bear, Bed and Breakfast "Crooked Oak Mountain Inn" in Asheville....what a magical place that is! It truley is a 5 star ***** !!Here is the link if you would ever like to be pampered in the North Carolina mountains: "Crooked Oak Mountain Inn" and if you didn't already know it....Asheville is a VERY ARTSY community....how fun is that!!
