I loved the way the distant canyon was lit up with the afternoon sun light.

"Transformation"
I painted this scene “en plein air” in winter, and the air was quite brisk for the time I was there! The field I painted this in is next door to a house, and the next thing I know I am talking to the owners! They turn out to be art lovers, and bought this painting. As so often happens between art lovers, they are not only collectors, but they have become friends, too. | Fragment 18x24 Another in my abstract series. Last blog I wrote about Pollock and de Kooning. While reading about these two incredible artist, I came across Joan Mitchell. Way cool work! She hung out with de Kooning and other artists in the 60's, 70's and 80's. She used movement to paint large canvases.I would have liked to have known her, so I will research more and paint.... stay tuned for more:) www.bsyatesart.com |

“Apple Trees” is a pastel that came from the joy of using the colorful pastel sticks that are available to artists today. I played with strokes and color, and was so pleased with the result, that I painted this scene with oils, as well. This painting is sold, but to view more of my work, please visit my website at http://www.barbarachurchley.com or e-mail me at barbara@barbarachurchley.com

| "I never was interested in how to make a good painting.. But to see how far one can go". (Willem de Kooning) He was called "master of the gesture". In keeping with my challenge I created Confetti. A combination of gestures and movement. What do you think; Pollock or de Kooning? to see more; www.bsyatesart.com www.bsyatesartist.blogspot.com |
