One of my favorite winter paintings, done from a photo taken near Granby, Colorado.
I love this area of Colorado and the beautiful red Willow bushes along the creeks in the winter.
It was a lot of fun to paint the contrast between the red Willow bushes, the blue of the thawing creek and the many nuances of white in the snow. The pastel strokes were layered over a bright orange background, which still shows through the shrubs.

I love coffee, and totally miss my morning Tim Hortons ($1.55 for a large, not sure if that is still the same price!) I've adapted and purchased the new Keurig Single Cup Coffee Maker. It makes a perfect cup of coffee every time. No more throwing out all that gross wasted crap at the bottom of the pot. Over Christmas, I've become quite hooked on Pumpkin Spice, totally love it. It's almost like being at Starbucks!

This painting is going back to my geologic abstract series. What looks like copper plates is actually moulded aluminum foil painted with metallic paint to look like weathered copper.
I secured the foil to the surface with YES glue, but then added copper nails to enhance to illusion of metal being nailed to the panel.

"Breezy Poppies" - a little memory of summer, to brighten the winter days.

Each season has it's own gifts, and winter is no exception. It's a great time to be in the studio, re-visiting subjects and locations from earlier in the year, in new ways. I have a chance to explore nuances of color and expression that painting on location doesn't allow.
In this painting I used the brush and paint to express the
lightness of spirit I feel when I see poppies in bloom.

I painted these daisies a couple years ago. The painting has been hanging on my wall in my studio. I kept looking at the original version, which had some blue in it. I think it was the blue that was bugging me, so I took it out of the frame, and went to town on it.
My husband, who is my greatest critic, likes the original version better. I like the new version. Any thoughts?

Well, we are down in Florida for Christmas. So happy to be with my girls but kinda sad that we left a winter wonderland back in Denver. Very grateful that our flight left Denver safely. There was 10 inches of snow on the ground when we left.
