The goal was to reveal the hidden colors in the dark shadows of the water. On location, without my paints available, I savoured all the colors in the waters, both in the shadows and reflections. Once, home, working from photographs, I added the color notes I remembered. The photos only showed the shadows as black, and the highlights as white.

Their attention was on a dog-walking couple passing by on the street, two small mixed breed dogs tugging at their leashes. In painting this series of four I used both white and red wines.  It not only made it more fun for me, I thought that that would give the client more color choices.  After meeting with her I thought that I should have asked if they preferred white or red wine.  In retrospect, I'm glad that I didn't as I might have only painted that color.

I painted this poppy yesterday. Taking a photograph of it today was a little challenge because of the bright colors. The background is a little more of a blue gray.
I love painting flowers. It cheers me up and I hope it does the same for you.
Most of the poppies in our yard are done blooming for the year. There are only five buds left to open. Lets see what we can make of them!

Chickadees are one of my favorite little birds. We have many in our backyard and their song and calls are so happy and appealing. We have a nesting box that is filled with baby Chickadees that should Fledge soon. I watch the box daily as mom and dad constantly bring treats to the many little ones we can hear calling to them. I know once they are out of the box it won't be long before they are on there own. Before they take flight to far away places, it is my wish that they will spend some time in our plum tree as other babies have before them.

With so much going on today (Salida Art Walk), (miniature auction--my 2 donations did well in $$$ raised), (an art reception at the Steamplant featuring 2 artists friends) (and the heat!), I am surprised that I was able to paint. Ah, but somehow, I managed to do another small painting.

Whenever you go camping around here you will no doubt see a scrub jay or two begging for bread, or just swooping down to try and grab some of your garbage.  I like this pose for the scrub jay, as he waits patiently in a tree, just observing.
