"ENCHANTED"

I'm continuing with my forest series.  This one is on 30x18 inch canvas and is covered with a layer of clear epoxy resin.  I got the idea for this painting while I was sitting my booth at an art show.

I noticed a painting I had on display had two areas of metallic corrugated paper with the grooves going both vertical and horizontal.  It was exciting how the light reacted so differently depending on the orientation of the grooves.

early stage

Using the corrugated paper, and several other art papers, I came up with a fanciful tree design.  This painting can only be appreciated in person so you can see the light dance.

"What?" Baby Goslings

I knew I was in the mood for an animal painting today, but which animal to paint? Looked through some reference photos and then started flipping through some wonderful photos from my walks around Sand's Lake, I found this wonderful image of this gosling with its mouth open looking at the camera as if to say "What?".  They are growing fast, and I wish I had taken more photos of them. They are really cute. This painting is for sale for $125.00, contact me by e-mail for more details: susanmspohn@gmail.com

Oil on archival board, 6" x 6", $125.-
I just finished the third little painting in my Blue Columbine series, at the top. I like to paint in a series and sometimes arrange the paintings so that they relate to each other. It gives me a chance to explore the subjects a little bit closer and, suddenly, there is a story. This is the story of a wonderful July weekend in Grand County, Colorado. The wildflowers were especially abundant after all the spring rains.

Tropical Oasis III by Janice Wright

Acrylic on smooth watercolour paper
8" x 10"
handsomely fits into a standard-sized frame

While in Costa Rica in February I shot some photos of tropical foliage. Using this referrence material, I wanted to paint the colourful flowers and leaves, but I didn't want to get caught up in the detail. I wanted to capture the lushness of the plants, their brilliant colour and the play of the the light on the leaves. This is last in the series of three.

This is the second in my new Forest Abstract series.  Like the first one, FOREST ELEMENTS, it has several collaged papers, foils, and acrylic mediums.
I painted this on a birch panel measuring 12x48.  I had both of these paintings at an art show over the weekend, and they were a hit.  I've already started a third one which will be a vertical on a 30x18 canvas.

There's nothing like a new project to jump start your creative muse.  For more information on this painting, click here to go to my website.

"Rub A Dub Dub" Painting by Colorado Artist Mary Arneson

Enamels and Acrylics were the paints of choice for this tub painting.

I love my original claw foot tub and it has lived in my house since 1884. This old tub deserved a face lift so I had the inside re-enameled and then proceeded to freshen up the claw feet. As I stood back and admired what had been done it struck me....what was Really needed was something to make everyone smile as they rounded the corner into this bathroom....yes, a scene of underwater play was most certainly called for. So with cushion under my bottom and with paints and brushes surrounding me, I set out to paint two or three fish playing under the surface of tropical waters. Well, once I started I couldn't stop so what you see is where my imagination took me.

I hope you enjoy seeing my whimsical tub painting. Want a tub painting of your very own? Email me: marysbrush@aol.com

Julie Kirkland Fine Art

My daughter was married in July and since then, I've been very focused on my painting.  So focused that I haven't spent much time on the computer.  I have been working hard to improve my brushwork and color and feel that I'm starting to get a little more consistent results.  My goal is to soon be posting art on a regular basis, but for now I'm staying up to my elbows in wet paint.

Here's a little piece that I did on Friday.  I haven't titled him yet, but it's a late afternoon setting, and he seems to be looking in the distance for a familiar person to run and greet....

I'm now taking dog portrait commissions for the holidays.  If you need a gift for someone with a cherished pet, a painting that captures the animal's personality is a great gift.  Contact me at
mailto:info@juliekirkland.com for more information and you can see more examples of my portraits on my website, http://www.juliekirkland.com/.

KMD2672 Curious by Kit Hevron Mahoney

I am working from another picture that I took several years ago and have had on my list of what I want to paint since then. When I photographed this fellow, he appeared so curious with his head cocked to the side and made me think he had a great sense of humor as well. It is so joyous to paint animals and birds as they add so much to our lives and the world in general.

I just ran into Walmart.  When I was walking out the door I noticed the most wonderful smell.  Right on the front walkway, chiles from Hatch, New Mexico were being roasted.  They were selling them by the bushel.  Boxes and boxes of them were stacked up near the roaster.  I wish I'd had my camera or phone.  You gotta love living in the west!

Susan Spohn---Beauty Among the Thistles

Beauty Among the Thistles
Oil  on Board
30 x 30
This is a different look for one of my paintings. And I like to experiment, when I find a subject or scene that really gets my attention. In this instance, there was a hazy, dreamy quality to this scene with a brilliantly colored goldfinch munching on thistle seeds. There is a peaceful and calm presence to this setting, and I hope you will enjoy this moment in time. Comments? This painting is for sale. $700.00 Contact me by e-mail for purchase and more information.

"Kinda Cheating" By Kelli Miller

6x6 oil

So... did you know it's easier to paint carnations if you turn the blooms away from you? Lol. That's what I did in this painting. So I'm kinda cheating:)

I haven't blogged or painted for the past two and a half weeks. My father-in-law had open heart surgery. So spent a lot of time at the hospital plus my youngest has been home for the past 2 weeks and my oldest came home for a week. Now I'm back to being an empty nester again. It doesn't get any easier. She even took her cat:(

Susan Spohn --- Grey's Garden

Grey's Garden
30 x 54
Oil on Board
This painting is now almost dry and since the clouds rolled in I was able to get a better photo of this painting.  My previous photo was very dull and now you can see some of the vibrancy of the flowers.

All these flowers were growing at the Botanical Gardens in Denver. I put them together in a painting I call, Grey's Garden. This is a large painting, and is finished for now; well, at least until it dries when I will probably add a few dabs here and there. This painting is for sale for $1,800.00, please contact me for details. My e-mail: susanmspohn@gmail.com
