MEXICAN HAT FLOWERS

These whimsical flowers were abundant this summer. They flourish in wildflower gardens along with traditional flower beds. A friend of mine even grows them in her lawn. There are many varieties, but all feature an elongated seed head in the center. In some varieties, this central seed head is several inches long! But the petals are few and they are small.
