Adobe in Summer, a 9x12 original pastel by western Colorado artist, Barbara Churchley

I had a blast painting at a friend's house in Taos this summer. This was her neighbor's house, and I painted it en plein air from just outside the doorway. I would like to share some great news - I was just awarded Signature Status in the Colorado Pastel Society - what an honor! Please visit my website at www.barbarachurchley.com to see more pastels and oils. Thanks!

"Mountain Aspens", an original western landscape oil painting by western Colorado artist, Barbara Churchley

This is the best time of year in Colorado when the aspens begin to show their beautiful autumn colors. This painting is on a deep edge gallery wrapped canvas. Enjoy our incredible mountains through the work of the Rocky Mountain artists! To view more of my work, please visit my website at www.barbarachurchley.com.

"Autumn Flow", a 12x16 original pastel by western Colorado artist, Barbara Churchley

I was giving a demo for some pastelists, and I wanted to show them different ways of depicting what we see. I had a lovely representational pastel of the same scene with the correct greens, ambers, etc. I created this pastel to show them how to put their own artistic sense into the scene in front of them. I hope I broadened their vision! To see more of my work, please visit my website at http://www.barbarachurchley.com.

"Mountain Aspens", a 16x12 original oil painting by western Colorado artist, Barbara Churchley

It’s that time of year in the Colorado Rockies when the aspens are cloaked in welcome greens. We have been so fortunate to have the July monsoons, and the high mountains are looking so much better than we thought they would. I painted this one on a hillside high in the mountains. "Sage in the Dobies", a 14x18 original landscape pastel by Colorado artist, Barbara Churchley

Out here in western Colorado, sage is a fact of life! It’s a good thing I enjoy painting it. Don’t ask me what the Dobies are, because that’s just what the dirt/sand hills are called out here as they front the southern end of the Grand Mesa. Enjoy the sage and Dobies! FYI, I just sent out a newsletter; if you would like to receive my semiannual newsletter, please sign up on my website at http://www.barbarachurchley.com.

"Blue Barn", an original 16x20 landscape pastel by Colorado artist, Barbara Churchley

Sometimes a painting just does what it wants, and this one went not only out of the box for me, but out of the barn, too! I had a lot of fun playing with cool colors on top of a surface of gesso with pumice. That makes for interesting lines in the pastel. I hope you enjoy it! FYI, I just sent out a newsletter; if you would like to receive my semiannual newsletter, please sign up on my website at http://www.barbarachurchley.com.

I am having a one woman show this month at The Alpine Arts Center in Edwards, Colorado – just down the road from Vail. This is one of my signature pieces for the show. "Road to Somewhere", a 6x6 original pastel by western Colorado artist, Barbara Churchley

This sweet pastel was a result of visit to a dear friend’s house in Texas. There’s a lot of space in Texas, and I guess the feeling came through on this piece! Enjoy! To view more of my work, please visit my website at http://www.barbarachurchley.com.

"Spring Thaw", an 18x14 original oil painting by western Colorado artist, Barbara Churchley

I love painting around Taos, and have only begun my explorations there. This creek descends from the Taos ski area, and was just losing its snow. I painted with a friend there, and we had a great time together. I would love to have you on my newsletter mailing list(no more than twice a year, I promise!). "In the Forest", a 16x12 original oil painting by western Colorado artist, Barbara Churchley

Aspens are a favorite of mine to paint. They always appear different to my artist’s eye, and every time I paint them, they look different than all the others I have painted before them! They are the signature autumn tree in Colorado, and deservedly so! To view more of my work, please visit my website at http://www.barbarachurchley.com.

Late Autumn, an original 6"x6" oil painting by western Colorado artist, Barbara Churchley

I painted this miniature beside the creek that runs behind my home. It was late in the day, and I was so inspired to paint this scene. I could hear an American Dipper working its way up and down the stream as I painted. To view more of my paintings, please visit my website at http://www.barbarachurchley.com.
