Once Upon a Time, by Colorado Artist, Donna L. Martin

Once Upon A Time

Once upon a time, on a cold, winter’s night, the trees stood humble and still. All was calm and bright. There was hope. And the stars exhaled in gratitude.

This is an original Mixed Media piece created with many layers of papers, paints and inks.  The original is sold, but commissions are welcome.

"Trio of Aspen", original mixed media triptych by Colorado artist, Donna L. Martin

Trio of Aspen

Detail

Closeups of leaf detail

This triptych was a commission.  I had to really think about these pieces.  The husband prefers traditional pieces of art and his wife likes more contemporary artwork.  I was tying to figure out how to "marry" the two styles.  It took so much time to complete!  These were done on 12 X 36, 2" deep cradle board.  The pieces are comprised of molding paste, crackle paste, paper, paint, burlap, tulle, and bronze nail heads.

"Moonlit Winter Aspens", Original Mixed Media Painting by Colorado Artist, Donna L. Martin

Moonlit Winter Aspens

This is a little mixed media piece I did depicting aspen trees on a snowy winter night.  This piece sat around for about 10 months before I finally decided what to do with the background!  It was done on MDF board with molding paste and crackle paste for texture.  It was completed with acrylic paint.  The original is sold, but commissions are welcome.

"Aspen Dance in The Forest of Whimsy II" 30"x24" Canvas, Original Abstract Aspen Tree Painting by Colorado Contemporary Artist Kimberly Conrad

Kimberly Conrad Contemporary Artist "Pouring Color Into Your Life"

Original Abstract Aspen Tree Painting on 30"x24x7/8" gallery wrapped canvas

The  painting posted Sunday, which was similar to this one... was a commission piece. This piece was painted at the same time. Upon occasion, when I am commissioned to do a painting that I think may be complicated, I will paint two for the buyer to choose from. This one is available. All of the paints in this piece are metallic, which are sooooo beautiful ..but very difficult to photograph. I have taken 26 photos of this painting, and am not happy with any of them. The tree on the right in this piece is just as vivid and bold as the other two, but the light hits that side of the painting making it look washed out in comparison!!

The sides are painted and this painting can hang as is, or be frames in a standard 30"x24" open wood frame. The buyer of the other piece chose to frame in the bronze color from the painting, black would be lovely as well.

"GOLD AND RED LEAVES" 12023, mixed media aspen leaves collage © Carol Nelson Fine Art

Gold and Red Leaves

The second in my current leaf series, Gold and Red Leaves, is similar to Green and Blue Leaves in every way except color family.

Sorry for the uninspired titles.  What else are you going to call these decorative panels of leaves?  I decided to go with a descriptive title instead of something like "Autumn Dance."

These leaves are shaped like aspen leaves, but they're a little oversized - more like a cottonwood leaf without the serrated edge.

"GREEN AND BLUE LEAVES" 12024, contemporary mixed media aspen leaves © Carol Nelson Fine Art

Green and Blue Leaves

These are not real leaves (people always ask me if they are.)  They are made from painted watercolor paper and mounted on a textured board.

I have done several leaf paintings this way.  It's fun to play with the colors.  I know it would be hard to find blue aspen leaves, but I thought they looked nice, so here they are.

The theme is reminiscent of the violin I decorated for the Denver Young Artists Orchestra fundraiser.  The auction Gala is coming up soon - I hope my violin sells for a lot.  That's mine on the invitation - woo-hoo!
