"Poppy Field Near Trevi, Italy" by Karla Nolan, original watercolor and ink painting on paper

From the moon to the poppy fields again (my last blog was a lunar blog) -- we were near this field but above it when we first saw it, standing near a wall in Trevi, Italy.  Visiting in May, the delightful red flowers were everywhere and we drove all around so I could get some reference photos.  Luckily we were successful in navigating to this field, so here you go, some more poppies from me to you!

"Poppy Field Near Trevi, Italy", 5.5"x8.5" watercolor (unmatted), $85 which includes s/h in continental U.S., contact me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information, Paypal accepted

Thanks for looking!

"Hill Town Spring (Italy)" by Karla Nolan, unframed palette knife oil painting

Ah, Italy, hill towns, Tuscany, and Spring!  Fields full of red poppies, unbelievably vibrant.  The curvy and steep roads leading into the town of Cortona.  The old buildings, rugged stones from years ago.  Just have to love this place!

"Italian Poppy View" by Karla Nolan, framed palette knife oil painting, affordable art

In my opinion, the "must visit" time for great poppy viewing in Italy is in the month of May.  The fields are simply alive with wild red European poppies, enlivening the already beautiful landscape.  Skies are blue, undergrowth is green, the air is fresh and warming.  I guess it's obvious that this is the most delightful of scenes to see!

"Italian Poppy View", framed 5"x7" palette knife oil painting on linen panel, $100 includes s/h in continental U.S., click Paypal button below or write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information

Thanks for viewing my art!  Greetings from Fort Collins, Colorado

Little House at the End of the Field, 5.5x8, Original Oil Painting, Unframed, $75 includes shipping.

Little House at the End of the Field, 5.5x8, Original Oil Painting, Unframed, $75 includes shipping. Sometimes you just need to shake it up a little. I was getting pretty tired of still lifes and needed to get outside and give plein air another try. I had so much fun with this one. Could it be that all that squinting at tomatos and oranges helped me out with my nemesis...plein air? I think the red underpainting might have given it a little boost. I'll try it again with a white canvas and see what I can do.

"Here's the Path" by Kate Dardine

Painting # 15 of my Painting a Day Project. This one started out as a bear in tall grasses with poppies, but I decided I wasn't in the mood to paint a bear - I was really just interested in the poppies and grasses. Three wipe outs later, the painting had the abstract feel I was looking for.

5x7, oil on stretched canvas. $55, ready-to-frame. Click here for purchase info.

Daily Painter from Fort Collins, Colorado, USA.

Crossed Sabers Ranch barn by Kate Dardine

I've been working on this painting for a couple of weeks...started out with a much more complicated composition but kept simplifying, getting to the essentials of what this painting is about - a beautiful round barn set in a gorgeous landscape in northeastern Oregon. As I was painting it, I felt a sense of the barn being on hallowed ground. Something about the shape of the barn, and the white cross bars on the hayloft door, remind me of a church. I guess to me, Spirit can be found here in the silence. Perhaps the only sound is the breath of wind rustling the drying grasses of late summer as a cloud builds with afternoon moisture.

The barn is on the Crossed Sabers Ranch, just off the road to Imnaha, outside of Joseph, Oregon. As soon as it is dry enough, I'll sign it and do a preliminary varnish (with retouch varnish) and ship it up to my gallery in Joseph - Kelly's Gallery on Main Street.

"Crossed Sabers Ranch" is a 20x20 oil on gallery-wrapped canvas.

Shyanne - Yearling Paint Filly by Kate Dardine

This is a painting of my Paint filly, Shyanne, when she was a yearling. Shyanne came into our lives when she was one day old. I had stopped by a local ranch to see a horse I had there in training. They told me that they had just lost a mare who had given birth the day before. Right away I knew my mare, Stormi, would be the perfect nursemaid. Stormi had lost her day-old colt the year before - but for some reason had never dried up nd was still producing milk. So we brought Stormi to the ranch and she took to the filly immediately! She had this look on her face like, "Well, here's my baby! I've been looking for her for a long time!" I really think she always believed her baby would come back. Long story short, we ended up keeping the filly. She was originally named "Annie" as in "Little Orphan Annie", but when we decided to keep her, we changed her name to Shyanne - for one, she was shy as a baby, but really because our other four horses all had names starting with an "S" (Stormi, Scotty, Shiloh and Star!)

"Shyanne" is a 24 x 24" oil on gallery-wrapped canvas, and is available at the Collective Gallery.
