" Winter Willows" by Astrid Paustian

Pastel, 11" x 15", sold. Available as limited edition print, $75.-
One of my favorite winter paintings, done from a photo taken near Granby, Colorado.
I love this area of Colorado and the beautiful red Willow bushes along the creeks in the winter.
It was a lot of fun to paint the contrast between the red Willow bushes, the blue of the thawing creek and the many nuances of white in the snow. The pastel strokes were layered over a bright orange background, which still shows through the shrubs.

"Winter in Colorado" Acrylic Paintings by Colorado Artist Mary Arneson

With the weather in the 90s again today, my mind is wandering to winter days in the Colorado Mountains where the air is crisp, the sky is blue, and there is a promise of more snow to come!

This painting was done for a friend. If you would like your own winter scene, just email me at: marysbrush@aol.com

Utah Plein Air Study, Colorado Artist Julie Kirkland, Utah, Landscapes

Here's another plein air study from my Utah trip. This view was directly across from the scene that I posted a few days ago and these mountains were mostly in shadow. The sky was a beautiful blue, but it was a cold afternoon to paint as the wind was gusting off of those snowy peaks. Oil study on canvas panel, 5x7".

My studio is open this Friday night as part of First Friday ArtWalk. Part of the evening, I'll be a block down the street as part of a show at "A Call to Life" on Colorado Avenue. For directions to my space in the "Second Floor Studios," visit our website: www.thesecondfloorstudios.com

Utah Plein Air Study, Colorado Artist Julie Kirkland, Utah, Landscapes

I just spent a wonderful week in Utah with some artist friends. We were there to see the Bloch exhibit at the Bringham Young University's Art Museum, and also spent hours viewing a fabulous western landscape show. The landscapes around the Provo area were not to be ignored either and we spent one afternoon painting outdoors. Oil study, 5 x 7".

"Winter's Palette" Colorado Artist Julie Kirkland

My favorite winter sight is that of light and shadow playing on red twig dogwood.  I love the way the blue shadows intensify the warmth of the bushes.  This 9 x 12 oil is complete with a 3" espresso colored wood frame.  $395 plus tax and shipping.  For more information on this painting, contact me at info@juliekirkland.com
