Acrylic on rough watercolor paper
8" x 10"
I've always thought the medium watercolor challenging because of its unforgiving nature and (in my mind) the need to work in a very methodical way. I enjoy working in acrylic on watercolor paper because I can thin the paint and use it like watercolor paint, or I can apply it thickly, taking advantage of the opacity of the medium and the rough texture of the paper. It's like the best of both worlds! This image is based on some photos that I took while I was home in Canada, visiting Emerald Lake. I liked the character of the trees, their tenacity to grow in such a harsh climate.
