Penny Rhodes Fine Art..New Work "Sporting House Girl", charcoal on Bristol Plate, 9x12

This drawing for my Victorian West Series was inspired by a photo I took while attending a local Festival called "Lou Bunch Days" in Central City, Colorado last summer. Lou Bunch is Central City's famous (or infamous if you prefer) 19th Century historical "Madam/Brothel Owner".

Every Summer, Central City celebrates Lou Bunch and her "Sporting House Girls" who rescued and nursed the town's sick and dying miner's during a deadly epidemic. This raucous and slightly bawdy festival replete with party goers dressed in period costumes, is a lot of fun for history lovers and photographers.
