This is one of several paintings I have completed from photographs that I shot in Castlewood Canyon State Park. The park sits on a plateau that provides a panoramic view of the farm land nearby. Another of my pieces of the area entitled "Castlewood Rocks" has been accepted into the juried show Castlewood Canyon thru the Seasons now showing at the Wildlife Experience Museum in Parker, CO . This show runs until May 8th, 2011 and features pieces by 42 local artists.

This painting was inspired by a trip to nearby Cherry Creek State Park to shoot the coloured leaves at twilight.

I spent about an hour shooting the cottonwoods, and the sunlight on the reservoir and was starting to leave the park as it was getting dark. As I drove up the road leading out of the park the setting sun bathed my world in the most delicious, warm light. I stopped my car on the road and did a 360 with my camera on power wind. It was that kind of light that you wait all day to see, and have seconds to react to its effects.
