My husband and I cross from Grand Junction, Colorado to Prescott, Arizona several times a year. It's so beautiful and wide open in the desert! We watched this amazing storm cell march across the wide desert with open mouths. It was full of dark and light clouds, rain, rainbows, whirlwinds, and lightening! What a storm cell bonanza! I've wanted to paint it for a few years, but doubted that I'd be able to do it with acrylic paint. I could glaze and scumble to my heart's content and still not say what I wanted to say. So I resurrected my oils and had at it. The wild and singular force of this beautiful cell reminded me of a Valkyrie; beautiful, powerful, and merciless.

KM2939 Cosmic Purpose by Colorado fine artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (Rabbit brush, textural, oil painting, southern Utah, desert, foiliage)
This is the first painting created for my solo show at Brushstrokes Studio-Gallery here in Denver, Colorado. This scene was so beautiful when I came upon it, with the rich sages, yellows and purples along with the textures and backlighting that I knew it would be the first painting I would create for my show "The Journey Home" The show opens tomorrow and will run for a week. I am very excited to present textural paintings from Southern Utah and explorations into abstraction.
60"x48" Original oil painting
$8000 plus $300 shipping and handling

"RED CLIFF" 11011, daily painter aluminum abstract © Carol Nelson Fine Art

| "RED CLIFF" |
I couldn't photograph this painting accurately because of the aluminum substrate. I painted it using transparent glazes of acrylic paint, resulting in amazing depth of color.
The photograph does not show how the light dances around on the surface.
This painting is going to be my part of a dual entry in a show called "Duets." My partner in this project is Colorado photographer Ron Beller. This is the photograph I worked with.
As you can see, I selected only a small portion of Ron's beautiful photo for my painting. I thought my painting would turn out more abstracted than it did. It's actually a pretty fair representation of the rocks.

100 Garden & Floral Oil Paintings, Original Artwork by Pam Holnback, 60/100
Triangle L Garden Gate
6" x 8" Oil on panel
Sold
In early December my husband and I stayed at the Triangle L Guest Ranch and Bed and Breakfast in Oracle, Arizona. We'd never been to the Tucson area and spent several days exploring the desert surroundings. Being at the Triangle L is like stepping back in history. Many of the whitewashed adobe buildings were built in the 1890's. Guests stay in cottages near the main ranch house. The corral fence is built of stacked wood. The ranch had several garden areas, lots of gates, doorways, outbuildings, a windmill. It was great for getting me back to my garden series.

"CANYON COLORS" daily painter mixed media geologic abstract © Carol Nelson Fine Art

This geologic abstract has large areas of painted aluminum foil. When painted with a transparent fluid acrylic, the effect is a soft metallic glow on the surface. The camera does not show this very well.
I love the colors with that complimentary red/green thing going on. For purchase information about this painting, click here to go to my website.

Southwest Spirit, 9039 desert landscape abstract by Carol Nelson

I didn't start out with a southwest landscape in mind, but that's what I ended up with. Another of the allures of doing abstract work - as Forrest Gump said - abstracts are like a box of chocolates - you never know what you're going to get.
I've been working on a number of abstracts that I will feature in my booth at the Downtown Denver Arts Festival over Memorial Day weekend. This 24x30 abstract on canvas can be purchased through my website by clicking here.
