Mixed Media Flower Art Painting, Poppies “THREE REDS AND A YELLOW” by Colorado Mixed Media Artist Carol Nelson

This painting is done in the faux batik style. After painting the flowers, a layer of wax was applied as a resist. After gently crumbling the waxed painting, a darker color was pushed into the cracks. After ironing to melt the wax, a beautiful lacy pattern appears.

"AUTUMN PALETTE" 12089, acrylic faux batik tree landscape by Carol Nelson

Autumn Palette

This is a second demo I did for my class on faux batik.  (See previous post for explanation of the process.)  The random blotches, spots, and lines are a result of the color applied after the wax layer has been cracked.

The random way this occurs is what is fascinating to me.  For more information, click here to see my website.
