"Daybreak on the Land" abstracted bison painting by Kate Dardine

Painting #44 of my Painting a Day Project -
The pattern of color on the bison's back
symbolizes the sun rising up over the mountains,
while the morning star shines brightly
in the darkness just before dawn.

"Althea" - contemporary great horned owl painting by Kate Dardine

This is painting #42 of my Painting a Day project. It is a 12x12" oil on stretched canvas - a bit larger than my usual daily paintings. I am donating "Althea" to a fundraiser for "Memories in the Making", an art therapy program for Alzheimer's patients. I was "paired" with a patient who had painted a lovely silhouette of an owl - you can read about the program on my Facebook fan page (and become a fan, too, if you'd like!) or you can read about the program on my blog (and subscribe too, if you'd like!)

"Quacky Quior" duck painting by Colorado artist Kate Dardine

Painting #39 of my Painting A Day Project. There is something about the shape of these ducks - called Indian Running Ducks - that just quacks me up. Their legs are set further back on their bodies than "normal" ducks, so they must stand more erect for balance. This trio kind of looks like they are singing! "Quacky Quior is 8x6" and available through Old Town Art and Framery.

"Twilight Bear" abstract wildlife painting by Kate Dardine

Painting #30 of my Painting a Day project. Twilight Bear is resplendent in her designer coat! This is one of those paintings that have a mind of their own. My original idea was to paint a more realistic bear, but she had different ideas. And when a bear has ideas, well, you just step aside and let her go! Twilight Bear is 6x6", oil on stretched canvas, ready to frame. Click here for purchase information.

"Sea Turtle Flies Through Crimson Skies" by Kate Dardine

Painting #24. Inspired by a photograph of a Hawksbill Sea Turtle swimming over a red coral bed. I am intrigued by how bird-like sea turtles look when they are gliding through the water. The Hawksbill turtle, true to its name, has a pronounced beak that gives it its name.

"Sea Turtle Flies" is 4x5", oil o n stretched canvas, ready to frame. Click here for purchase info.

"Goddess of Love" by Kate Dardine

Painting #12 of my Painting a Day project was inspired by an ornament on my Christmas tree. Some people think she looks like an Angel, and that is what she started out to be. But she seems to have a little to much chutzpah to be an Angel. 4x4 oil on stretched canvas. $35

"Clive's Hummingbird" by Kate Dardine SOLD

Actually a Broadtail Hummingbird, this little bird was a gift from my friend and mentor, Clive Tyler. He found it frozen to a branch one cold day in Autumn a few years ago. Knowing that I collect birds (and keep them in a freezer in my studio!), he gave me the tiny treasure. Last night I decided to paint it! This little gem is approximately 4x4", oil on linen panel, ready to frame. Only $35 plus shipping.

"Complete Honesty" a WIP by Kate Dardine

I've been thinking a lot about the ramifications of complete honesty lately. Honesty in word, action and thought. To me, the horse embodies the notion of complete honesty - they let us know exactly what they are feeling, if only we are honest enough to pay attention. The horse also embodies freedom, and we will never be truly free until we unshackle ourselves from the untruths that pervade our daily lives.

Complete Honesty is a work-in-progress, 20x20, oil on gallery-wrapped canvas.

"Passage" by Kate Dardine

This painting began as a gesture drawing, just a loose idea of “horse.” The horse that emerged is one that has appeared in many of my dreams, usually at a time of growth and transition in my life. So the name “Passage” refers to that. I’ve purposely kept the drawing loose, the painting somewhat unfinished. To me, the passage, or time of transition, is always incomplete.

"Passage" is 8x8, oil on gallery-wrapped canvas. $225. Click here to purchase using PayPal, or contact me for more information.

"Presence" by Kate Dardine

In this painting, I like the interplay of shapes and colors, and the relationship between the horses and the viewer. Horses live very much in the moment, all senses taking in information. Although to the untrained eyes, horses may seem not to notice what is going on, if you observe where their ears are pointed, you’ll have an idea of what has got their attention. In a herd situation, horses work in cooperation with each other, listening and looking in all directions and communicating to each other through subtle body language.

30x40 oil on canvas, gallery-wrapped. Click here for more information.
