"Young Gold Finch Study" by Astrid Paustian

Oil on board, detail of a large commissioned painting in progress.
I have been busy with many projects, a large commission of a bird and sunflower painting, among others.
This detail shows one of the juvenile Gold Finches, the colors in his plumage not quite developed enough to tell if it is a male or female.

Star's Garden

oil on board

15 x 15

While I was visiting in San Diego, I made the acquaintance of this very old dog named Star. She was always alert and kept an eye on everything going on all about her. She had a presence about her that strongly reminded me of a coyote. This painting is a tribute to her, and her connectedness to the world around her.

"Pink and Purple Iris" by Astrid Paustian

Oil on canvas, 10" x 8", $275.-
The Iris plants are growing a lot these past few days and bring the promise of many beautiful flowers in our garden. We are fortunate to live near an Iris farm, Longs Gardens in Boulder. Since we bought our home here many years ago, we have made an almost annual trip to the farm, where we can select and dig up large clumps of Iris plants and transplant them to our home garden. The result is a magnificent display every year in May. Longs gardens is a beautiful place to visit. For more information, click here.

"Northern Flicker" by Astrid Paustian

Oil on canvas panel, 10" x 8 ", $275.-
Spring is in full swing in our back yard and the bird bath is a busy attraction for all kinds of birds. The resident pair of Northern Flickers is looking for a new nesting place since we had to cut down the old and ailing willow tree last winter. I do hope they find a suitable home.
I love observing and painting birds, always impressed by their beauty and resilience.

100 Garden & Floral Oil Paintings, Original Artwork by Pam Holnback, 48/100

Garden Shed

8" x 10" oil on panel

$195.00 + $10. s/h

Yesterday my plein air group painted at a new location, a house and garden new to us, anyway.  The house is at least 100 years old, and the house, garden and all the sheds and greenhouse were so well maintained.  I was drawn to the shadows and light on the shed wall.
