Something you can try is using the same object several times in one painting. This still life was done with one apple, but turning it different ways, to complete the entire painting. The more you paint the same object the better you get, if you haven't already check out www.carolmarine.blogspot.com Her apples and still life paintings are amazingly good, and I believe it is because "practice and more practice, makes perfect."

In The Velvet by Bob Coonts

This is a 20"x36" acrylic on canvas painting. There is a lot of texture buildup with the use of a palette knife. The image that I worked from was a photo that I shot in Rocky Mountain National Park. It was late day and overcast. I enhanced the colors in the painting as I often do. The think that the antlers of the deer truly look like the deer is in the velvet, meaning new antlers.
