I have been busy painting for my new gallery in New Buffalo Michigan.
This is a Colorado fall scene painted in oil on a 40"x20" gallery wrap canvas.
Lately, I seem to be drawn to doing the tall vertical paintings. I don't know why it seems I find myself doing a majority of vertical compositions and then go through spells of nothing but horizontals.

KM2852 Fleeting Moment by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (autumn, aspen landscape)

Last fall I was driving through Vail, Colorado in early October. This was a scene I shot from the car in the morning right after a light rain fall when the sun came out and lit the tops of some of the aspen trees. I did not get to the mountains this fall so I am reliving the fantastic Colorado autumn days from last years photos.

KM2845 Textures of Fall by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney

Here is one of my latest done for our show at Brushstrokes Gallery called "Define/Describe" where we have painted a representational painting followed by an abstraction of that peice. The abstracted painting will be posted next! This is a scene from our mountain cabin on a path along the river which I have walked year after year and always never grow bored as the scenes may remain the same but the scenery is ever changing.

KM2843 Illumination by Colorado Artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (8x10 landscsape)

This painting started as a warm up exercise. I painted over a painting I was not happy with and did this with very heavy strokes of paint on my brush and palette knife. I really like the mood of this piece as it reflects the warm glowing light I found in the scene that I photographed in Santa Fe many years ago. I have always wanted to paint this scene and don't know why the photo sat in a box for so long before I decided to paint it. As the photo was taken pre-digital it shows how long I have had it laying around!

KM2831 Summer's End by Denver, Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney

I have returned from a glorious week in the mountains at our family place where there is no phone or internet service. We had perfect Colorado blue sky days with cool mornings and evenings. It was great to take a break from painting and just enjoy my surroundings. I am now ready to go back to the easel and paint for Brushstrokes upcoming show on October 5th where we are painting a representational and its abstraction. A fun challenge. Meanwhile, here is a small one done from some great reference in late summer at the Botanic Gardens from photos taken a few years ago.

The Flatirons in Boulder, Colorado have always been a favorite of mine. I went to school at the University of Colorado many years ago and never missed a day of looking at the view of the amazing rock formations in my then backyard. This beautiful view is from Chautauqua Park, another great destination in Boulder.<br />
