"Sea Waves Shalom" by Karla Nolan, framed painting on glass
The reason I named this particular painting on glass "Sea Waves Shalom" is when you see a close up view of it, it truly is reminiscent of the waves in the ocean. Ah, if we only lived near an ocean. I would love it. There is nothing quite as peaceful and calming to me as lying in the sun in the sand on the beach, listening to the pounding surf. This will have to suffice as a replacement for now. Shalom!

Leaves 6, 9061, metal leaf abstract by Carol Nelson
Another example of my leaf series. The leaves themselves were cut out of gold embossing metal - I think it's aluminum- that I got at an art supply store. The cool thing is that the metal is gold on one side and silver on the other. The background is highly textured and the whole piece is covered with resin which gives it an "under glass" look. I'm sorry that these photos just don't show the details very well. If I give it enough light to show the background well, the shiny leaves are overexposed.

"A Lavender Rose" by Karla Nolan, framed painting on glass
This particular painting on glass has just SOLD. However, I have other roses in golden yellow, red, and blue, painted directly onto the glass and framed nicely in the same type of frame. The painted area is small, 4"x4", but set off by this lovely frame which is gold and greyish-blue. I'm especially proud of these roses, as I drew them freehand, which is quite the challenge -- it's easy to overdo it or leave out too much. Simplicity works here. "Churning" Poured abstract painting on 3ftx3ft x2" gallery wrapped canvas. (large painting) I have named this piece Churning. I love the movement in this piece. I may have named it differently on a different day, but today when I look at it, I see all a churning movement, and all of the colors moving towards the black hole, like everything will be sucked down in there. I have churning in my emotions right now....on another day, I may see something completely different. That's what's so wonderful about abstract work, it's always relative to the individual viewer, and their life at the time!! The colors are actually a little deeper, as always, I will mention that metallic paints are hard to photograph, as they wash out a little in the picture. Have you ever really studied the skies just before dusk? They can be almost mysterious, like something is "in the works". A surprise type of dusk. A few years back, I noticed this phenomenon and asked around about it -- someone told me it was a "gloaming". Bobcat Ridge is NW of Loveland in the foot hills. It was a great day for painting, the type of day that makes me know I'm blessed to be an artist. As we have had frequent rain storms, the various shades of green were vivid. The clouds indicating yet more rain to come, which it did.It rained three times while I was there, however I was nice and dry under the picnic shelter.
