" Winter Willows" by Astrid Paustian

One of my favorite winter paintings, done from a photo taken near Granby, Colorado.
I love this area of Colorado and the beautiful red Willow bushes along the creeks in the winter.
It was a lot of fun to paint the contrast between the red Willow bushes, the blue of the thawing creek and the many nuances of white in the snow. The pastel strokes were layered over a bright orange background, which still shows through the shrubs.

"A WINTERS DAY"

I always liked this painting. I think I like it because of the perspective, but also because the scene at Cherry Creek State Park is very close to my home in Colorado.
If the sun is this bright, the cold doesn't seem to matter as much.  This painting is sold, but I have many others on my website.

Although this piece is now in a private collection, you can own one very similar. Winters in Colorado are unpredictable...sometimes it feels more like summer and sometimes we're in the deep freeze.
