It is difficult to describe how I create my abstract paintings as it is such an intuitive process. Of course my results are a culmination of life experience and everything I have been exposed to in addition to all the art I peruse looking for inspiration. This painting evolved seemingly into a landscape and I let it "paint itself" once I saw a direction in it.
I am off to some great adventures on Kauai with my good friends Connie and Pat. Posting will be sporadic for the next 10 days as I enjoy this vacation but know I will return home with yet many new inspirations!
12"x16" unframed original acrylic

"Colorado High Country" Painting by Colorado Artist Mary Arneson
6 x 7 Acrylic on Wood
No matter which way you turn, the beauty of the Rocky Mountains is a wonder to behold. To even attempt to paint what I see is exciting....knowing I could never compete with the Creator of all this is okay....just being able to try is a privilege. For information on this or any of my other pieces email me at: marysbrush@aol.com

"Colorado Winter" by Mary Arneson
Approximately 5-1/2 x 7 Acrylic on Wood
Although this piece is now in a private collection, you can own one very similar. Winters in Colorado are unpredictable...sometimes it feels more like summer and sometimes we're in the deep freeze. The saying here is to just wait for five minutes and the weather will change. For more information on owning your own Colorado scene, just email me: marysbrush@aol.com

"Star Of The Show" Coneflower Painting by Colorado Artist Mary Arneson
11 x 14 Canvas. Framed in a Black Wood Frame
Acrylic was the paint of choice for this painting. To bring only one flower to the forefront in blazing color was fun to do. I'm happy with the way this turned out so proceeded to do three others with different flowers. For more information on this painting, please email me: marysbrush@aol.com

"Winter In The Making" Acrylic Painting by Colorado Artist Mary Arneson
This in Progress Acrylic painting is inspired by the large amounts of snow we have received in the Colorado high country. More snow covered trees and shadows from our Colorado sun will be added for more depth. Want to contribute ideas as what else to add to this painting?? Water Lily, Inky Pool

Acrylic, 11 x 14
I recently became an art instructor for Grumbacher Paints. Their class curriculum guarantees that the class participants will "complete an acrylic painting in two hours!" Hmmm...... So now I'm learning to finish a painting in two hours!! I prepare for the class by creating one painting in the allotted two hours. Then, I paint it again while I demo it for the students. This headlong rush to complete 2-hour paintings has been great fun! I've learned to choose simple images that can be painted with a very limited palette. Every brush stroke counts!
Here's a painting from a recent class. The image is an inky pool at the Denver Botanical Garden with a water lily dancing on its surface.

"Winter's Last Grasp" Painting by Colorado Artist Mary Arneson
16 x 20 Artist Wrapped Canvas
22 x 26 Framed in Solid Wood Black Frame
The Colorado Rockies have many little ponds of water. You never know when you'll stumble across one and what animals will be there. Some of my quietest moments have been in the mountains on a crisp winter day. For purchase of this piece, contact me at: marysbrush@aol.com

"Forest of Pine" Trees by Colorado Artist Mary Arneson
10 x 8 Artist Wrapped Canvas
$100.00 + $12.00 SH
This was painted from memories of roaming around the Colorado mountains. The thickness of the forest gives way to sparser landscape opening it's canopy to blue of the sky. I treated the canvas for added texture and used acrylic paints. This painting doesn't need a frame. It's ready to hang on the wall or display on an easel. Contact me for further purchase information: marysbrush@aol.com
