"Pink Water Lily", original watercolor painting by Karla Nolan

We live in what I call "a little slice of Paradise", Fort Collins, Colorado.  This sweet town has all sorts of horticultural delights including a huge test garden, Colorado State University Horticultural Department, multitudes of greenhouses and gardens.  But one of my favorite spots to visit is The Gardens on Spring Creek, less than two miles from our house.  This past summer I did a solo tour through the Gardens and found this sweet pink water lily, just floating along.  Here it is for you to ponder.  I enjoyed painting it and learned a few lessons about watercolor painting as the painting progressed.  It is one tough medium!

"Pink Water Lily", original watercolor painting, 4.75"x8", $60 includes s/h in continental U.S., click Paypal button below or write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information

Susan Spohn --- Water Lilies

Water Lilies
5 x 7
oil on board
Just a quick study of a water lilly pond with some koi fish swimming about in between the pads. The reference photo was not very clear, so I just wanted to work on a basic composition. I want to do a larger painting of this subject in the future. This study is for sale for $40.00 and includes free shipping in the Continental USA. "A Monet Star" Contemporary Water Lily Painting by Colorado Artist Carol McIntyre

Inspired by my visit to Monet's gardens in Giverny, France last June. I love the elegance and steadfastness of these flowers that seemingly walk on water.

Water Lily, Inky Pool

Acrylic, 11 x 14

I recently became an art instructor for Grumbacher Paints. Their class curriculum guarantees that the class participants will "complete an acrylic painting in two hours!" Hmmm...... So now I'm learning to finish a painting in two hours!! I prepare for the class by creating one painting in the allotted two hours. Then, I paint it again while I demo it for the students.
This headlong rush to complete 2-hour paintings has been great fun! I've learned to choose simple images that can be painted with a very limited palette. Every brush stroke counts!

Here's a painting from a recent class. The image is an inky pool at the Denver Botanical Garden with a water lily dancing on its surface.
