"Cockapoo Cutie" By Kelli Miller

10x10
oil

No, you are not seeing double. I subscribe to my own blog. That way I see what you all see. When I got the last post I was not happy with the painting. So I went back and reworked the background. I like it a lot better now. It's the same painting only new and improved :)

"Cockapoo Cutie" By Kelli Miller

$150.00
10x10
oil on canvas panel

It's been a while since I've posted a painting. I've been traveling quite a bit, but that's now excuse. Truthfully, I just lost my creative mojo. But now I'm back feeling refreshed and ready to paint like crazy!!

I don't know this cute pooch, but I would take him home in a heartbeat!!

"Tucker...Sorta" By Kelli Miller SOLD

The last painting I posted was the backside of Tucker. This is the front view of a Yorkie puppy...only it's not Tucker. I didn't have one of him when he was a baby so I went online. My daughter looked at it and immediately knew it wasn't him! Good eye Anna!

Susan Spohn ---- Dog

Oil on Board
7 x 7

Since I wasn't painting for the past week and a half, it took a while to get into this painting this afternoon. This painting looks kinda neat up close with lots of color swirls, layers and thicker paint. The photo reference makes this a more difficult painting to paint, so I will probably try another one with more of a head shot to see if it reads a lot better. All paintings are wonderful learning experiences, and as I paint, I try new ways of painting, new color choices, and of course lots of subject matter.

"You have a Ball?" by Astrid Paustian

Oil on canvas board, 8" x 8"
I painted this portrait of our dog, Katie, 3 days ago, as a gift for my husband. He is the most patient "guardian" for this troubled animal, who had been abused as a puppy and acts very aggressive towards strangers and other dogs. She is the most devoted dog towards him and the entire family in return.
You can view more of my paintings on my web site or
my painting blog. I would be happy to paint a portrait of your pet also!

"ROSCOE" 11023, daily painter dog portrait © Carol Nelson Fine Art

"ROSCOE"

This is a commissioned pet portrait.  Roscoe looks like a happy guy.  I had a good reference photo to work from with strong light and shadow.

I remember my portrait project from a year ago where I painted 100 portraits from photos I received by email.  I had to stress over and over the importance of taking a photo with strong light coming from one side so there would be shadows across the face.  I actually told people to go outside at dawn or sunset and take a picture with the sun lighting only one side of the face.

That's one of the reasons many professional portraits are boring.  Flash, flash, flash.  No shadows on the face.  There is no reason to light up the entire face as if it were a mug shot or an object in an advertisement.
