Often when I'm looking for a painting title I use google. So, for this one I googled "cowgirl lyrics" and got this title from the song Kamikaze Cowgirl by Larry Joe Taylor.
This piece is from my time painting at the Medano-Zapata Ranch in southern Colorado last June. I have several paintings from then that will be hanging at the Colorado Springs Airport in the Ranchlands Show from January through March. So, if you happen to be flying in or out of the Springs, please look for all of the work from all of the participating artists.

The 105th annual National Western Stock Show, the Super Bowl of stock shows opened here in Denver over the weekend. Ranchers, farmers, breeders, horsemen converge on Denver for 16 days to show their animals and compete against the best of the best from around the country. There's horse shows, several rodeos, and every conceivable competition from sheep-shearing to mutton busting to horse dancing.
One part of the stock show that I try not to miss is the Coors Western Art exhibit, which features western themed fine art by incredible artists who are much more famous than I will ever be.
I also like to walk around the grounds looking at all the critters. There are so many breeds of cattle, horses, sheep, etc. all getting groomed and foo-fooed for their moment in the spotlight. There are small animals too - chickens, rabbits, ducks, guinea pigs - you name it.

As the title says, this ranch is just outside of Leadville, Colorado. This is from a trip we took there in early September. It's now abandoned, and like many relics from the old west, falling apart. But, I wondered about the families who lived there in the past. And, at this Thanksgiving season thought it an appropriate piece to post when I'm thinking about all that I have for which I am thankful. A ranch like this couldn't have operated if everyone didn't pull their weight and help each other. I'm sure that the families who sat around this dinner table were thankful for each other everyday.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. And may we all be thankful for our families, friends, and health.
