'Coming Out', Allegorical, Realism, Surrealism Still-Life by Paula Peacock

'Coming Out'
by Paula Peacock
11"x14"
Oil on Canvas
Sold

This painting was inspired by one of my students whom I taught for 5 years. At 13 years old, she announced to me she was gay. A year or so later she announced she was bi-sexual, then transgender/transsexual, then simply said, "it's complicated". She kept this information from her family for at least 5 years. Her teenaged angst was multiplied ten-fold while she struggled with her identity, hiding who she really was. Towards the end of our time spent together teaching and learning, she finally came out to her mother. There was an overnight change in her personality. She was relieved, happy, elated, light as a feather, sunshiny and danced on-air to name a few emotions. I thought of her as a butterfly emerging from her cocoon and was free to fly like the beautiful person she was.
She graduated high school and left for college. I miss seeing her weekly for our 2 hours of making art and talking and trying to solve the woes of the world. She's an extremely intelligent person who I know is out there somewhere taking on the world by storm.

Before this painting sold, it traveled around to a couple of museums, galleries and was favorably written about in 'American Arts Quarterly'

Due to Covid-19, I am no longer offering group classes or workshops until it's considered safe.
No worries! I am, however, still offering one-on-one private painting lessons on Thursdays and Fridays.
Mask Up and Social Distance, I hope to see you soon!

"THE NARCISSISTS' MIRROR" Oil Paintings by Paula Peacock

The Narcissists' Mirror

28" x  34"
Oil on Canvas
by Paula Peacock

A wilted and almost dried up daffodil (scientific name narcissus) gazes into a tri-folding mirror and sees only himself as beautiful and all else (the purple tulip) surrounding him as not as perfect, beautiful or as delightful as he sees himself to be. When in reality, it is he who is ugly on the inside and outside because of his conceit. The dragonfly represents self delusion and the bubbles allude to the brevity of life.

"Country Houses, Burgundy, France", by Karla Nolan, framed, pastel painting, France, sale affordable

I am going through some older artworks and putting them on sale occasionally, as I need more wall space in my small art studio so, hopefully, you will benefit from my decluttering mode!  My husband and I have visited Burgundy, the wine region in France, a couple of times and I have always marveled at the architecture of the country houses, the flowers and natural landscaping surrounding the red tiled roofed abodes.  This pastel painting is framed as shown and takes me back to some more of my travel memories.  Does it look familiar to you?

"Country Houses, Burgundy, France" 6"x9" pastel painting, framed (9.5"x12.5"), $120 includes s/h in continental U.S., click Paypal button below or write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information

"Here's Looking at You, Kid" Julie Kirkland

I stopped one day to photograph goats in a field.  They were really so far away that, without a zoom lens, I couldn't get any useable reference photos of them.  This little kid was still young enough to find me a curiousity and walked right up to the fence to take a look at me.

"Here's Looking at You, Kid" is an 8 x 8 inch unframed oil on panel.  He can look at you in your home for $125 plus applicable tax and shipping.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at info@juliekirkland.com.  To see more of my work, visit my website http://www.juliekirkland.com/

"October Bouquet," Julie Kirkland

"October Bouquet", 6 x 8 in. oil,  $125

Fall is undeniably in the air and I'm looking forward to the autumn colors and the pleasure I get painting outdoors in the September and October.   The leaves aren't turning yet, so I'm looking through some of the magnificent photos that I took last year, and am painting some of my favorites.  Not only does it satisfy my urge to paint in an autumn pallete, it also makes the fall season seem longer!  "October Bouquet" is framed in a beautiful gold, 3' wide plein air frame.  Tax and shipping apply depending on your location.

Bird Series - Baltimore Oriole, © Carol Nelson Fine Art

I did a bird series about a year ago which did not photograph that well, so I'm reposting them with photos taken with my new camera. Each painting in this series is painted on a Baroque Artist Panel. These are cradled hardwood panels that provide a smooth surface ideally suited for fine detail work.

The Baltimore oriole was a frequent visitor to my Mom's feeder where I grew up in Minnesota. They especially love oranges and grape jelly to snack on. I wish we had them here in Colorado where I now live, but I think they don't like the altitude or the low humidity here.

For purchase information, please see my website.
