The sky is a bit brighter as the sun rises, symbolic of a new day, with the heavyweight of darkness being pushed aside. A beautiful blue butterfly releases the restraints of grief and anger, after the loss of my son, allowing me the ability to breathe again and to look forward to what the day may bring.

Live each day as though it’s all we have and remember to tell your children you love them no matter their age. They will never outgrow hearing it and we should never tire of saying it.

Weekly Oil Painting Classes with Paula Peacock

Weekly oil painting classes for the beginner covering painting techniques, color theory, composition, featuring the subject of Still-Life. You will gain an understanding of the oil painting process as you learn about color mixing, values, complements. Canvas prep, varnish, framing, mediums and paintbrush care will be discussed. Each student is encouraged to work at their own pace. You choose which day of the week and I will try to be flexible. There are somedays I will not be available. The day of the week you choose would need to be consistent. For the materials list contact Paula Peacock.

A wilted and almost dried up daffodil (scientific name narcissus) gazes into a tri-folding mirror and sees only himself as beautiful and all else (the purple tulip) surrounding him as not as perfect, beautiful or as delightful as he sees himself to be. When in reality, it is he who is ugly on the inside and outside because of his conceit. The dragonfly represents self delusion and the bubbles allude to the brevity of life.

Contemporary Abstract Painting "A Quilter's Music" by Contemporary Realism Artist Carol A. McIntyre

"A Quilter's Music Box," started as a challenge to myself. I wanted to paint an abstract using light and low contrast colors and values. It proved to be more of an artistic challenge than I thought it would.  The theme of threads weaving in and out - almost like hide and seek - through several layers is the concept I was trying to convey. While I was finishing the painting I keep thinking of quilters; the rhythmic threads reminded me of music.

What do you see in this painting? I would love to know how you respond to this image. Do you see an abstracted human skeletal system?



 Here is what one of my collector's, Janet Ungs, wrote,

... you know what made the painting all come together for me?  Those four horizontal lines on the left side of the painting.  Prior to the lines, I felt all the energy of the painting contained in the center of the painting.  The red border seemed to be constrictive like it was keeping everything together and in its place.  Once the four horizontal lines appeared (which ran to the edge of the painting ... and seemingly off the painting) it expanded the energy of the entire painting ... to beyond the painting. 

 Then she asked, Does this make sense or just sound crazy?? It makes perfect sense to me and I loved that she made the observation.

"Covert" started out as a painting where I wanted to experiment with texture and lots of layers.

 I did not know how it would develop, nor did I know if it would be successful or not. I had never created the first layers of a painting with intense colors with the intent to ultimately cover  or layer over the first few colorful layers.

Double jaw surgery in August 2010 impacted my artmaking. The surgery increased my airway 4 fold, hence I now experience more air and more REM sleep. "Released!" was inspired by this surgery and my Colorado surroundings.

The results of my recent jaw surgery has opened up my airway significantly. Consequently, I am experiencing dreams much more frequently than I have ever experienced in my life. Air and dreams, though allusive, was a challenging combination to tackle in a painting. What do you think? This is also my largest canvas to date.

"Coming Up for Air," continues my exploration of celebrating air. As one who has spent a lot of time in the water and watched air bubbles scramble to the surface, this image developed in my mind's eye. Originally I titled this painting "Quiet Depths," but a long time friend suggested the current title and I found it more telling.

"Coming Up for Air" won the People's Choice Award at the Art Matters Gallery & Studio in Salida, CO in September 2011! It is a great honor to win this award.

Contemporary Realism Landscape Painting " A Silent Tack" by Contemporary Realism Artist Carol A. McIntyre

Double jaw surgery in late 2010, inspired a new body of work I entitled, "Celebrating Air." Though air is weightless, it is vital to our mind, body and spirit as conveyed in this painting. And who knows where this new quantity of air will lead me?

Where does "A Silent Tack" take you? Does it conjure up a memory or any other thoughts? What does the key mean to you? Here is what my friend Jim wrote: "Bubbles burst... eventually. Take advantage of the moment when one drifts by. It may be much harder to locate those keys after the bubble bursts."

Which way is the Queen moving? The configurations of arches, columns and stairways in old art museums have always fascinated me. The perspectives are exaggerated to stimulate your imagination. What will be your next move? Can you find the horse, the bishop and the symbols representing a deck of cards?

This composition challenges your perspective. I wanted to pull you in and invite you to "play the game." Does it do that? Notice also how the wall on the right does not line up with the wall on the left. Ah.....isn't that fun and intriguing?

Contemporary Realism Landscape Painting "Nature's Promise" by Contemporary Realism Artist Carol A. McIntyre

"Nature's Promise" was inspired from my need to begin coping with the devastation from the Black Forest Wildfire. As a resident of Black Forest, our lives have been altered. Fortunately, our home and my beloved studio just missed the flames.

The blue wildflower in the painting was quite small. I discovered it in my yard 4 days after the fire began and I had NEVER seen this flower before despite many walks in the forest, (To date, no one has yet identified it.) It's trumpeting shape and glorious color seemed to convey a sense of hope and healing. Will is come up again in 2014?

The cloud shape is the smoke plume that we witnessed as we were evacuating our home on the first day.
