Fresh Tomatoes by Pam Holnback

Fresh Tomatoes
9" x 12" Oil on board
$195. + $10. s/h  click here to bid

The tomatoes have been incredible this year.  The cherry tomatoes in our garden have been so sweet!

For this still life, I also did a quick value study.  After I'd set it aside I realized that the value of the cut tomato was too light.  Because it's a study I didn't feel the need to go back and repaint it, but it certainly helped me realize the true value(s) of the inside of the tomato in the final painting.

"Sunny" By Kelli Miller

6x6 oil

I absolutely love sunflowers. So get ready to see a LOT of them. Just bought a bunch of them and they haven't quite opened up yet. I'going to paint them every day just to see how they change. The flower in this painting was actually a (gasp) fake flower. It will be interesting to see if there is a difference between the real and the fake.

Susan Spohn --- White Cosmos

Original Oil Painting--

White Cosmos
7 x 7
Oil on Board
The splendor and simplicity of a few blooms makes a wonderful  statement. Here you can see how the flowers pick up the colors of the surrounding area. Since I used a painting knife to carve out the petals, this painting is rich in texture. This painting is sold, and I hope to have more small florals painted soon.

Texas Bound by Colorado Artist Mary Arneson

Leaving very early in the morning for Texas to celebrate my mom's 90th birthday! Won't be doing any painting, but will be enjoying lots and lots of family!

This is a view from my mom's front porch. The horses and donkey belong to my brother so mom gets to enjoy their visit to the front pasture. Lovely way to enjoy coffee every morning.

Wishing you all a wonderful week and I'll "see" you when I get back to Colorado.

Cheers,
Mary

The colors in Colorado in September can be amazing; they almost speak for themselves.  For this one, I wanted to pay close attention to the values as the colors were already there.

I did this quick value study prior to the painting.  I made a few changes in the composition and drawing, ie:  less sky, changed the shape of the small tree on the left, but stuck pretty much to the values.

this was painted with our sunset painting group a couple weeks ago. We meet same place every week and paint as the Colorado sky changes color. It's been incredible!

"Sunflower Bliss" by Martha Kisling

SUNFLOWER BLISS
Original Watercolor on gessoed paper

Last week in my Wednesday night class we painted with watercolor on gessoed paper. The white gesso creates a slick surface to paint on, allowing the watercolor to slip and slide around creating glowing color and interesting texture.

Thanks to all who visited my studio during the Longmont Studio Tour Weekend! Lots of new faces as well as a few that I hadn't seen in a few years. It was nice to catch up. Though it is a lot of work preparing for the event, it is always well worth it. I'm still trying to catch my breath.

As I sit here with Ziggy laying across my feet (big orange kitty, on his back, feet in the air and doing a great job of imitating road kill), we are contemplating the direction my art should go in. Some of it is what I call the 'Traditional Still Life' genre. It is always nice, safe, sells, rarely stimulates conversation.
On the other hand, is what I call my 'Gotta Laugh to Keep from Crying' (aka contemporary still life) genre. It is always fun, frustrating, makes me laugh and curse at the same time, rarely sells but always engages the viewer and generates conversation.

See my dilemma? Sell or not to sell? Stimulating to some or stimulating to several? Safe or fun/frustrating? Ziggy and I are not agreeing on this fork in the road. In fact we kind of have a bet going on as to the outcome.

Go to my website, www.paulapeacock.com, browse through the various 'genres' and let me know what you think.

Ziggy and I would love to hear from you.

September Light, Contemporary Landscape Paintings, CLUB 47, Landscape Art, Southwestern Art, Colorado Artist Carol Hein

September Light, 9 by 12 inch original oil painting on linen over hardboard. Fall is my favorite time of year. The light in Colorado pours from the sky, shadows lengthen and colors seem to vibrate. I stumbled upon this beautiful little farm several months ago and returned last week with a group of plein air painters. It has been abandoned but the Colorado Historical Society is in the process of restoring it. To purchase contact Carol at: carolhein@sbcglobal.net Visit my website: carolhein.com This picture is unframed but will fit in a standard 9 by 12 inch frame.

The Painted Violin

The Painted Violin is a fundraiser for the Denver Youth Orchestra.  Each year, chosen artists are given a "retired" violin to paint/decorate as they wish.  This is my version that I am finally able to share with everyone.

The grand unveiling of this season's collection was last Friday at Gallery 1261 in Denver, CO.  The violins then travel to different galleries each month until next spring, when they are auctioned off to the highest bidder.

Here I am with my violin, which is called "September Song."  I painted the violin and then attached painted leaves cut out of watercolor paper.  On the back, I painted a fall scene with golden aspen leaves.

I hope it can sell for a generous amount to benefit the Denver Youth Orchestra.

The aspens are turning golden in the high country right now - always a gorgeous time in Colorado.  Here's a shot I took last weekend while showing all my visiting cousins the beautiful colors.

Summer Roses

Summer's Roses

My focus on this floral painting of roses was the abstract shapes, textured paint applied in a Alla Prima approach and a simplistic - yet colorful palette.

Susan Spohn --- Barnyard Scene

Barnyard Scene

Barnyard Scene
12 x 12
Oil on Paper and Board
Here is another experiment with oil on paper and board in a more realistic manner. Again you can see all the under lying texture created by using the paper. And you can see where pieces of the paper show through the oil paint. I am on the fence as to whether or not this really works with this painting. But it turned out to be a cute scene with all the chickens and the sheep. The reference photo of the sheep was the main inspiration for this painting, the chickens were just support players.  This painting is for sale for $150.00.  Visit my blog to purchase this painting or to view other paintings: susanmspohn.blogspot.com

Autumn Burst, 24x18, original oil painting by western Colorado artist, Barbara Churchley

The fall colors in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado are almost too vibrant for the eye. It is a challenge to represent them in oil without being too overwhelmed by their vividness. This painting is sold, but you may view more of my work on my website at http://www.barbarachurchley.com or e-mail me at barbara@barbarachurchley.com

"Little Columbine" Flower Paintings by Colorado Artist Mary Arneson

6 x 6 Acrylic on Artist Canvas

I love small paintings because they can be hung on a wall as a lovely little fill in or can be placed on a table top easel. Either way they are displayed, their diminished size provides a big impact on the overall look of a room. I like to think of them as little jewels that give that finishing touch!!

"Fall Leaves" by Martha Kisling

FALL LEAVES
Original Watercolor - 11x15
SOLD

I love this time of year when there is a hint of fall in the air - crisp, cool nights, leaves changing colors and pumpkins for sale at the grocery store. When I painted Fall Leaves I used real leaves to stamp shapes on the paper and then added other leaf shapes and details around them. This has always been one of my favorite paintings and it now lives happily with Charlotte in Virginia.

Susan Spohn ---- Longhorn

Longhorn Cow

Longhorn
5 x 7
Oil and Paper on Board
Today's painting was a quick experiment using a new technique of painting with oils on sections of paper adhered to board. I like the abstract and modern quality this technique gives my art, but found it more difficult when painting a piece this small. This process does add more texture, and unexpected design with color as bits of the paper show through and I will continue to explore this painting method. This painting is for sale for $55.00 and includes free shipping in the Continental USA. Visit my blog to purchase this painting and view more of my art: susanmspohn.blogspot.com

Susan Spohn--- Petroglyph Cards

Small Original Paintings:

Decided to paint some more small original paintings that be adhered to cards. When these pieces dry and I have them placed on the cards, they will be for sale at Stone Path Gardens.  If you would like to buy one ahead of time, please contact me by e-mail: susanmspohn.gmail.com
