Garden Guardian

original acrylic painting

The second painting in my new series of outdoor paintings. Who isn't amazed by the crows that take over our outdoor spaces. The definitely demand our attention, with their loud voices and shapes. Crow Perch, daily painting, oil, by artist Susan Spohn

Crow Perch
6x6 inches, oil on wood panel
I was inspired by my reference photo of this crow. The background contained light muted pastel colors so the crow tended to stand out a bit more. Visit my website to purchase this painting: SpohnStudio.com

"Raven Glow" abstract bird painting by Kate Dardine

I timed myself on this one in preparation for doing the Quick Draw at the Western Spirit Art Show earlier this month. I allowed myself 45 minutes, start to finish. A few hairy moments when I wasn't sure it would come together, but overall I'm pleased with what I did in the limited amount of time.

BIRD ABOUT TOWN

BIRD ABOUT TOWN

is a whimsical little acrylic painting on

canvas board. When painting birds at

a workshop, I was suddenly seized with

a sense of absurdity and fun; hence the

bow tie and hat. Life is too short to be

too serious.

Greetings from snowy Littleton, Colorado.

I am happy to be back blogging after a

hiatus. Thanks to those of you who have

visited my website. For purchase or other

"Crow for Day" by Kate Dardine

After 14 days away from my easel, I am back painting! This was last night's quick attempt to get my groove back. 5x5", oil on gallery-wrapped cotton canvas. One of my goals for 2010 is to create a painting a day - in addition to my large canvasses, which generally take a week to complete. The small ones will be approximately 5x5" and are priced at $35 each, plus shipping.

"Counting Crow" by Kate Dardine

The crow is an extremely intelligent bird, capable of analyzing situations and using tools if necessary to accomplish what it needs. In this painting I imagined the crow contemplating the significance of numbers. "Counting Crow" is a 10x10 oil on gallery-wrapped canvas, $325.

The Heart of Raven by Kate Dardine

This is the first in a series of birth totem animal paintings. I started with The Heart of Raven because that is my birth totem, so I figured that was a good place to start. The series will consist of twelve 10x10 paintings, and will be sold as a set. Each painting has a short poem that is relates to the animal and the person who has that animal as a birth totem. Become a fan of my public page on Facebook and get in a drawing to win a custom painted 8x8 birth totem painting. See more Totem Animal paintings on my website, www.katedardine.com. Kate Dardine is a Daily Painter from Fort Collins, Colorado.
