"Spread Your Wings And Fly" by Astrid Paustian

Oil on canvas 24" x 24", sold.
Spread Your Wings, detail.
Home for the Holidays! The buyer brought this painting over today to be varnished.
It had been sold fresh off the easel during last year's Open Studios. I did not even have a photo of it. I like it. This is a different, looser approach than most of my paintings. It is nice to have it home for a couple of days.

Inspired by a wonderful friend's beautiful photo, this painting was a joy to create. The first "in process" photo was shared several days ago. I wanted to show it with the finished piece. I did take artistic license with the background to add interest and more depth. Hope you like it!

"Stillness" Bird Paintings by Colorado Artist Mary Arneson

5 x 4 Acrylic Painting on Watercolor Paper

Our little feathered friends don't usually sit quietly in the open for long periods. When they do, they are a joy to watch. I love to see their true colors in the sunlight and always hope I'm able to capture their special beauty on camera.

"Chickadee Cheer" Bird Painting by Colorado Artist Mary Arneson

9 x 7+ Acrylic on #1 Pine
Ready to hang or display on a tabletop easel

Chickadees are one of my favorite little birds. We have many in our backyard and their song and calls are so happy and appealing. We were Blessed to have had a newly fledged clutch swoop into one of our trees. Although they didn't stay long, it is a moment in time I shall always remember....to have such a large group of very young birds in our small plum tree at the same time was remarkable!! "Wisteria" Watercolor by Colorado Artist Mary Arneson

5 x 7 Watercolor in the Sumi-E style
Framed in a simple black wooden frame

Simplicity is sometimes the key to painting in the Sumi-E style. Every stroke of the brush represents the one and only layer being applied. Unlike regular watercolor or acrylic, you paint each part of a flower's petal only once...no going back for fixes! This makes for a challenging and interesting painting. For more information, email me at: marysbrush@aol.com

"First Come, First Serve" original oil 8 x 10 by Janice Trane Jones

This painting was painted as an entry into a plein-air competition during a rain storm. I had started painting a little pioneer home and then a huge wind and rain storm swept through the valley. I decided to scrape off the old paint and paint the robins picking up worms while I sat in the back of my Outback waiting for the sunshine to reappear. This painting sells for $199 unframed. Please contact me by email or view on my site.

"Raven Glow" abstract bird painting by Kate Dardine

I timed myself on this one in preparation for doing the Quick Draw at the Western Spirit Art Show earlier this month. I allowed myself 45 minutes, start to finish. A few hairy moments when I wasn't sure it would come together, but overall I'm pleased with what I did in the limited amount of time.
