I had a lot of fun painting the poppy last weekend while working the front desk at the Art Center of Estes Park.
Poppies, like everything else in our garden, were in a real hurry to bloom during this hot and dry spring. So happy we've been getting some late day thundershowers recently.

Coincidentally, I took several photos of flower pots outside a local gallery 2 years ago. The flowers were beautiful and especially against the gallery's freshly painted mint green bricks. Today, I just wanted to do a small painting. I was looking through some reference photos I took of some flower garden this fall and came upon one with lots of Bachelor Buttons. These wonderful flowers look blue, or purple or combinations of the two depending on the lighting and the flowers that surround them. In one of my photos a fat dragonfly was passing thru the flowers. While I was visiting in San Diego, I made the acquaintance of this very old dog named Star. She was always alert and kept an eye on everything going on all about her. She had a presence about her that strongly reminded me of a coyote. This painting is a tribute to her, and her connectedness to the world around her.
