"Santa Fe Doors: Yellow Door in Wooded Area" by Karla Nolan, matted watercolor painting

A brief return to my matted, watercolor Santa Fe doors series. I thought that a yellow door might cheer me up with all of this wretched rainy weather here in Colorado.  Adobe and yellow wood, with woods behind.  A bit mysterious, don't you think?  Especially in Santa Fe with all of the red and turquoise around.  Out of the ordinary.

"Santa Fe Doors: Yellow Door in Wooded Area", matted watercolor and ink painting, approximately 4.5"x3.5" image in off-white mat to fit 10"x8" frame,  write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information

Thanks for viewing my art!  Greetings from Fort Collins, Colorado

Susan Spohn --- Bear Stop

Bear Stop
12 x 12
oil on board
And here is the second painting of a black bear. The reference photo was interesting as it was wooded with some fall color in the under bush. I like this variety of black bear since it has a brownish muzzle, I was looking at photos of some other black bears and they were all black, and would not have been quite as much fun to paint as those with a little variety in their fur. Susan Spohn --- Black Bear Cubs

Black Bear Cubs
12 x 12
oil on board
Had a request to paint some black bears, so here is the first painting. Three black bear cubs climbing up a tree. I think they are very cute at this age, not that I would want one as a pet though. I will do another black bear painting of an adult. Susan Spohn --- Autumn Trees

Pallet Knife Painting, Fall Scene, Woodland, Fall Colors, Earthtones, Large Painting, Colorful Paintings, Impressionistic, Vincent Van Gogh

Autumn Trees
30 x 30
oil on board and paper
This painting had an interesting creative process from start to finish. I first primed and gesso'd the board, then using matte mediums, added scraps of paper in leopard and floral motifs to sort of form the outlines of trees and bushes. I then picked up my pallet knives and started painting mixing large quantities of paint, and generously swiping them on the board resulting in a thick, textural and loose painting. In the end, almost all the paper and board are covered, but it was fun to see what would happen in this creative process.
This painting is for sale for $850.00. Contact me to figure out the shipping costs, or if you are passing by my studio, you can pick it up right here. Susan Spohn --- Aspen Glen Magic

Aspen Glen Magic
12 x 12
Oil on Paper & Board
This painting in a new process I am starting in order to have a more abstract feel to some of my paintings. First, I adhere some hand-made paper with acrylic matte medium in random spots on the board. Then I keep looking at it to see what story it is hidden in this board... I then start painting in with my oil paints, in this case, using a painting knife, and the story evolves... I think the title of the piece says it all. I am thinking of doing a couple more pieces with this technique to see what happens! This painting is for sale for $175.00. You can purchase this painting by visiting my blog and  using the PayPal button, or by contacting me by e-mail to pay by check, or credit card over the phone.  susanmspohn@gmail.com

Susan Spohn --- Apen Glen Visitors

Aspen Glen Visitors

Aspen Glen Visitors
19 x 13
oil on board

This painting took two days to paint because my painting schedule was interrupted. I liked the unusual bending and crooked shape of several aspen trees in my reference photo. Since I had to photograph this painting right after I finished painting, the whites are brighter here, and the colors are not as vivid as they are in the actual painting. This painting was accidentally painted on one of my scrap hardboard boards, it is a bit of a trapezoid (not square or rectangle) but with clever framing will look like a rectangle. because of this, it has been discounted to sell for $50.00.
