"My Iris" by Karla Nolan, palette knife oil painting

Okay, I'm jumping the gun on spring, I admit it.  In fact, it is snowing again as I type, heading into April.  The green foliage has emerged from the ground but the iris buds are not ready to peek out yet.  I'm more than ready to see this iris plant once more.  Enough with the snow!

"My Iris, 7"x5" palette knife oil painting on canvas panel, $45 includes s/h in continental U.S., Paypal accepted, contact me for more information at KarlaNolan@gmail.com

Susan Spohn --- Large Diptych

Midsummer Enchantment
3 ft. x 6 ft.
oil on wood boxed panel
SOLD

Midsummer Enchantment was one of my favorite new pieces. I painted it early this summer, and now it has been sold. I love all the broken strokes of color in this piece, the wildflowers, and the textures. After my next couple of shows, I will start on another large diptych which I hope will be just as enchanting!  Visit my websites to see more of my art:  susanmspohn.com    spohnstudio.com

Susan Spohn --- Bear Stop

Bear Stop
12 x 12
oil on board
And here is the second painting of a black bear. The reference photo was interesting as it was wooded with some fall color in the under bush. I like this variety of black bear since it has a brownish muzzle, I was looking at photos of some other black bears and they were all black, and would not have been quite as much fun to paint as those with a little variety in their fur. Susan Spohn --- Black Bear Cubs

Black Bear Cubs
12 x 12
oil on board
Had a request to paint some black bears, so here is the first painting. Three black bear cubs climbing up a tree. I think they are very cute at this age, not that I would want one as a pet though. I will do another black bear painting of an adult. Susan Spohn --- Bird Value Study

Original Oil Painting

Bird Value Study
5 x 7
Oil on Board
Today's painting was a quick value study of a bird. I like the look of value studies, but I am not too keen on black and white value studies for me anyways, and will have to try another one in pretty colors to keep my interest. I guess that is the problem with being a colorist, nothing else gets your attention, but color! This piece is for sale for $30.00, contact me by e-mail to purchase: susanmspohn@gmail.com

Susan Spohn ---- Phoenix Rooster Rising

Phoenix Rooster Rising

Phoenix Rooster Rising
15 x 15
Oil on Board

I love the fancy chicken breeds! This is a Phoenix Rooster and they have very long tail feathers that drag behind them, probably not that great of a design for the chicken... but a great visual sight. This is one of two paintings I painted for a chicken painting commission. This one is fanciful and they other, although humorous, was  a little more realistic. Of course the customer gets to choose which one they want, and I have fun painting both of them!

Susan Spohn ---- Bird Legs

Bird Legs
5 x 7
Oil on Board

What to paint today? Cloudy, pending rain, not a day for a walk or hike, and yet we need the rain so much. I paged thru some photos and found some of this bird I saw at the zoo. I do not know the name of this bird, but they are structurely very neat. I would like to do a much larger painting of them. If nothing else, they would sell around Halloween! This painting is for sale for $55.00, includes free shipping in the Continental USA and does not need framing.

Susan Spohn --- Backyard Bantum

Backyard Bantum
7 x 7
Oil on Board

I really liked the strutting pose of this bird. A fellow artist posted a series of reference photos of her backyard flock. And I think this fellow has the great All American Rooster look about him. Sometimes, when I am at an outdoor art show, I seem to here a lot of comments as to why I only have one chicken painting... as it seems folks like to put lots of chickens in their kitchens.  Well, that makes sense, they are colorful and interesting with great personalities; and what better way to start your day than admiring a great chicken painting! This painting is for sale for $85.00 and includes free shipping in the Continental USA.
