"Green Hills of Ireland", 9.5"x13" original watercolor painting by Karla Nolan

There are so many shades and hues of green in Ireland, I don't believe that one could name them all.  Accompanied by the grey clouds overhead, there are subtle, rolling hills, walls of stone separating lots, quaint old houses surrounded by bushes and trees, wildflowers growing in the green (!) meadows.  What glorious memories I have!

This little painting is an amalgamation of several photos. The Colorado skies are magnificent, but I’m not always in the right place at the right time. The farm picture was taken from a distance as we were traveling along the freeway—no place to slip off the road for a photo, so it was taken as we moved—always interesting to see exactly what you’ve captured! The field was fallow, so I had to remember what it might have looked like after planting.

I used Wallis sanded paper as the ground with a hot pink and alcohol wash underneath, A mix of soft pastels completed the picture. This painting is double-matted and framed, ready for hanging.

“Dawn on the Farm” ”11x14 ” Original Pastel Painting by Colorado Artist Margretta S. Perry

“Dawn on the Farm”

Original Pastel Painting by Colorado Artist Margretta S. Perry
$250.00+ Shipping

This painting is of a barn located in Louisville, Colorado. I happened across this location when I was just driving and looking. I really liked the three trees in front with the barn and other outbuildings and silos behind. I started with a bright orange pastel as the base color and brushed it with alcohol to keep it from mixing into the complementary colors and greying them down. You can see the orange coming through in places which gives it a warm color harmony throughout. Although I saw the barn in the afternoon when taking photos, I wanted to capture a warm, early morning glow coming in from behind. I remember those early, frosty mornings as a child and wanted to share that vision with you.

I used Wallis sanded paper as the ground and a mix of soft pastels. This painting is matted and framed, ready for hanging.

“First Snow” 11”x14” Original Pastel Painting by Colorado Artist Margretta S. Perry

“First Snow”
11”x14”
Original Pastel Painting by Colorado Artist Margretta S. Perry
$250.00 matted & framed + shipping

Our first snow this year in the Front Range of Colorado was a beauty! I had to meet some people early in the morning, so as I drove, all I wanted to do was to stop and take pictures. When I arrived at my destination I had time to spare, so I walked around the neighborhood snapping away. It was an overcast morning, the light was low; there had been no wind, so the snow was sticking to everything. It was nearly monochromatic and a challenge to paint. I started it on a hot pink ground on Wallis sanded paper, and you can see the rosy color showing through, giving it a color harmony throughout. This painting is matted and framed, ready for hanging. It is being shown at the Broomfield Auditorium and is available for sale there until the end of January 2013.

This little painting is another of a series of paintings done from an early spring photo with leafless trees. I have had great fun envisioning this location in spring and summer regalia! This painting has a larger tree and more wildflowers blanketing the foreground.  I used Wallis sanded paper as the ground and a mix of soft pastels. This painting is matted and framed, ready for hanging on a small wall or in a larger grouping.

Tree of LIfe, Sheri Farabaugh, Original Oil Painting 18x36

Tree of LIfe, Sheri Farabaugh, Original Oil Painting 18x36 This painting will be for sale at the Art Student's League Summer Art Market. One of Denver's Finest art fairs. Sat and Sun, June 9th and 10th from 10am to 5pm, 200 Grant Street Denver, CO. Tent #135. And just to add a little bit about this rascal of a painting: I imagine every artist has a painting that has seemed like a lifetime project. They wind up turned to the wall for months on end, hoping for a revealation when you finally take another look. This is one of mine....there are others. Some eventually work and some just get painted over. Funny thing is, the most detailed parts of this painting were the things that came together fairly effortlessly. It was the top half, fading into the mist that gave me fits. How much detail was too much in the foliage, and finding just the right shade of green was a lot harder than I thought it would be. Finally, I think it's been 3 (maybe 4) years later, I think I'm there. Whew!

Little House at the End of the Field, 5.5x8, Original Oil Painting, Unframed, $75 includes shipping.

Little House at the End of the Field, 5.5x8, Original Oil Painting, Unframed, $75 includes shipping. Sometimes you just need to shake it up a little. I was getting pretty tired of still lifes and needed to get outside and give plein air another try. I had so much fun with this one. Could it be that all that squinting at tomatos and oranges helped me out with my nemesis...plein air? I think the red underpainting might have given it a little boost. I'll try it again with a white canvas and see what I can do.
