This is a commissioned pet portrait. I like its simplistic lines and coloring. There was a large flowering bushy sunflower plant in the back of the photo. Sometimes in the morning our sunrises are quiet, calm, peaceful.  Other mornings I look out and see only soft blues, with very little "real" sunrise.  There are other mornings when the sky is a palette of color.

This painting has very textured trees our of acrylic medium in the foreground.  The background has papers, cardboard, and burlap for texture.  I like the way in which there appears to be a distant light in the forest.

As we have family in town for the weekend, I'm not getting any painting done.  We've gone for walks, have had great meals with lots of visiting, went to the movies.  These sunrises from our deck were painted a short while ago to be posted this weekend.

The title for this piece is complements of Dean Haven who told me in a comment yesterday that I was "more than lucky to have this view...Blessed is more like it!"  He's right!  I thought that that made a great title!

This painting had an interesting creative process from start to finish. I first primed and gesso'd the board, then using matte mediums, added scraps of paper in leopard and floral motifs to sort of form the outlines of trees and bushes. I then picked up my pallet knives and started painting mixing large quantities of paint, and generously swiping them on the board resulting in a thick, textural and loose painting. In the end, almost all the paper and board are covered, but it was fun to see what would happen in this creative process.

Three Reds

This was a demo I did for a class recently.  I was showing them how to sculpt the poppy petals using acrylic medium or Custom Patch. 

The background was black and purple originally.  Then I painted over that with a warm gray color and spritzed it with alcohol resulting in those little circles where the darker background shows through.

Alcohol spritz on an acrylic painting is something I can't seem to demo enough.  For students that failed Alcohol 101, I can only say practice makes perfect.  Doing the perfect alcohol spritz is somewhat of an art form in itself.
