This is my painting that will be entered into our local library show that will run from May 12 thru June. The show is called Letters, Unfettered. We needed to incorporate an alphabet that was not English or Latin based. My words are written in Telugu. They were advertising a sale on cats, just like a used car ad. I just laughed and thought it was so clever. (I was unable to get a decent photo of my painting today, so excuse the improper lighting and the fact that the two halves are not next to each other....) 

I have finished this large diptych of a wonderful flower garden. I painted this piece using mainly pallet knives and then finishing up with some brushes. This was a whimsical, fun adventure starting with just a few photos of some flowers I wanted to use in this garden. Then as I started, I imagined I could see a cat sitting in the garden, watching a spider...... well, the storyline grew from there, until not only was there a resplendent floral garden with a cat and a spider.... but also; a caterpillar, a salamander, 2 frogs, a baby bunny, 3 bees and 4 butterflies! Can you find them all?

I am working on a large diptych. It is fun to paint it, but as with most of my larger paintings, a story evolves and it takes a bit of time to put it all together. While I do this, I will post a couple of 'previews' of the piece in progress. These are only small sections of the painting, and they are not finished yet either. I think the greys and pastel colors work well together, and now the customer can choose which version she prefers. Normally, I just paint one version, but Sophie was a good subject.

Today's painting was another cat. I have been selling most of my cat paintings, (donations/contributions for my upcoming wrist surgery....) so decided to be adventurous and try my hand at another type of cat...... One with lots of swirling stripes and grayish fur, but not.... this is Jackson. A seasoned tom-cat, Jackson surveys his surrounding neighborhood, making sure all is right, protecting it from any other seasoned tom-cats or other intruders. Although he appears to be formidable outdoors, when he returns to the comfort of his owner's house, he likes to curl up in laps and purr.

A friend sent several photos of her cats to me today. I chose this photo since it had the best lighting and some strong shadows. I know this was one of their favorite cats, and by the soulful look in the cat's eyes, I can see why. Several hours after I painted this painting, I sold it to the owners of this cat. My friend and fellow artist, Donna, displayed this portrait of her cat (Lightning) that I painted last month, in her booth while we were showing at our recent show in Las Cruses, NM. She had so many customers interested in the painting, that she sent them over to my booth to inquire about pet portraits. So for a limited time, you too can have your pet immortalized in oil paint in an artsy manner, like Donna's cat, Lightning. Send me several good photos (preferably head shots) by e-mail, or if you prefer, regular postal mail (PO Box 1231, Salida, CO 81201) Please write down your pet's true eye color, as it is often difficult to discern in a photo. Also, please include your e-mail address or phone number in case I have additional questions.
